Girls Novice 1V8 and U19 2V4+ take home gold, U19 1V4+ make finals. Rest of the boats show strong performance.

Washington, DC based TBC Racing (TBCR) athletes successfully battled elite competition at the 2023 USRowing Mid-Atlantic Youth Championships May 13 and 14 on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, New Jersey.

TBCR athletes made the most out of the program’s first ever appearance at the regional championship by  competing in multiple racing categories in both girls and boys events.  Athletes brought home gold medals in both the Novice Women’s 8+ and the U19 Women’s JV4+.  Additionally, the U19 Women’s V4+ progressed through time trials and semifinals to qualify for the finals, finishing in 6th place out of a field of 21 boats.  The Men’s team battled hard in their time trials and heats putting up strong finishes in the U19 Men’s 4+, JV Men’s 4+ and U17 Men’s 4+.  TBCR also threw their hat into the ring for the Women’s 2x event, adding a sculling event to the program’s mix.

TBCR CEO and Head Coach Matt Russell offered, “I am extremely proud of the efforts of all of our athletes.  This was TBC Racing’s second ever Spring season, and the first time we competed at the USRowing Mid-Atlantic Youth Championships, so to go out and win two events and put up competitive results in every event we entered is something to be proud of. The team has gotten faster every week and the results at this regatta are proof of that.  All TBC Racing competitors showcased determination and grit against many top programs in the Country ” Russell continued. “We thank the race organizing committee and officials for a terrific event and look forward to building on this experience to further our program’s continued trajectory”.
