TBC Racing Takes 5th in 1V8 and 1V4+  U19 Girls at Cooper Cup

Program’s Varsity Girls make the final in both the varsity 4 and 8 during rain soaked day

Camden, New Jersey

Washington, DC based TBC Racing (TBC R) athletes battled elite competition and the weather at the 2023 Cooper Cup River on April 30, on the Cooper River Course, which hosts the upcoming Women’s NCAA Championship in May.

TBC R rowers got the most out of this championship venue by competing in multiple racing categories in both girls and boys events throughout the day. The program’s U19 girls came away with 5th place finishes in the 1V8 and 1V4+ events.   They also held the distinction of being the only competitors in their category to have completed four 2K’s during the event.

The boys team battled hard in the Men’s events, capped off by 2 second place finishes in the flights on the men’s 4+ and U17 4+.  On the novice side, the newer rowers had an excellent showing, highlighted with a second place flight finish for the Novice girls 8+.

TBC R CEO and Head Coach Matt Russell offered “Today, our athletes did not let intense rain and adverse conditions dampen their competitive spirit. I am extremely proud of the strength and passion they demonstrated on the water and the sportsmanship off of it. All TBC R competitors showcased mental and physical toughness learned during the winter training program which helped them fight through unusually challenging conditions that lasted the entire regatta” Russell continued. “We have a strong group of competitors at all levels and this is always a great event which brings nationally ranked programs and talented teams together. Most of our team was able to row in multiple events, and our U19 Girls ability to both make the finals and place 5th in their events, exemplifies TBC R’s continued positive evolution and shines another light on our potential. We thank the race organizing committee and officials for another well done event and look forward to building on this experience to further our program’s continued trajectory”.
