TBC Racing Secures Impressive 16th Place Finish at the Prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta

Boston, MA

TBC Racing, a prominent Washington, DC area rowing club, is pleased to announce its impressive 16th place finish against a field of 90 crews in the extremely competitive Women’s Youth Eight event at the renowned Head of the Charles Regatta. In addition, the club’s younger athletes earned 7th place in the Women’s Under-17 Four against a field of 23 crews. These achievements are a testament to the hard work and skill of our entire team of athletes, who showcased their prowess on one of the most challenging and celebrated rowing courses in the world.

The Head of the Charles Regatta, held annually in Boston, Massachusetts, is a premier event in the rowing calendar, attracting top talent from across the globe. The 3-day event is known for its demanding course that stretches along the Charles River, offering a challenging mix of tight turns and long straightaways.

Head Coach and CEO Matt Russell shared his excitement, “I want to congratulate not only those athletes who had the opportunity to compete and achieve great things at the Head of the Charles, but also the entire team cheering them on from DC. We pull together a diverse group of athletes from all over the DC area, and every one of you contributes through hard work every day to the success of the club.”

TBC Racing traveled with 33 high school aged athletes to Boston to compete in a variety of events. In addition to the top finishes in the Women’s Youth 8+ and U17 4+, athletes competed in the Women’s Youth 4+, the Men’s Youth 8+ and the Men’s Youth 4+.

TBC Racing is looking ahead to the future with excitement and determination. Russell shared, “Over the last 12 months, we have seen the effect of a year round high performance training regimen for our top athletes. The increasing dominance of club rowing in the United States is something that the Washington, DC area is playing catch up on. Our area’s traditional scholastic rowing focus has meant teams focus on only competing at a regional level.”  Russell continues, “TBC Racing is now looking forward to not only providing the top athletes in the DC area the opportunity to compete against the fastest crews in the country, but now we are going out there to win.”

Next up, the team will travel this weekend to Philadelphia, PA for the regional Head of the Schuylkill Regatta, followed by several local events to close out the fall. The focus will then turn to the road to qualification for USRowing Youth Nationals in June of 2024. Starting with the team’s next international competition at the San Diego Crew Classic, April 5-7th in San Diego, CA.  “We have a lot of hard work, and a lot of fun ahead of us.  I’m proud of these young athletes and how far they have come, but even prouder of what I know they are ready to take on and achieve during 2024,” shared Russell.
