TBC Racing earns 4th place in Medal Count out of 64 clubs at the Independence Day Regatta in Philadelphia

Girls U17 8+ takes home 1st & 2nd place, and the team makes finals in every event entered.

Washington, DC based TBC Racing (TBCR) athletes showcased their strength and sportsmanship at the Independence Day Regatta in Philadelphia, PA on Jun 30, 2023 and Jul 1, 2023.

In their first competition of the summer season, TBCR brought 100 athletes to compete against 63 other clubs for a coveted Independence Day Regatta watch.  The results were highlighted by top finishes in the U17 Women’s Eight where the team dominated the field, securing first and second place finishes.  Other highlights include the Men’s U17 Eight’s second place finish while the U19 Men’s and Women’s Eights both finished third in their age group.  Most impressively, the team made the final in every event entered, often with multiple crews earning a spot in the six boat final.

TBCR adult athletes finished in first place in the Men’s Pair and Masters Mixed Quad, and first, second and third places in the Men’s Intermediate 2-. 

At the end of the Regatta, TBCR earned 4th place in overall medal count across the 64 teams competing in the regatta and earned the top spot out of clubs from the DC area.

TBCR CEO and Head Coach Matt Russell expressed immense pride in the team’s achievements, stating, “We had overwhelming success in every event we entered, but I am most impressed by our athletes’ fortitude to live up to the very high expectations we have for teamwork, sportsmanship and grit at these events. These athletes are simply excellent in every way.” He continued, “This was our first regatta of the season with this group of athletes from 42 different high schools in the Washington, DC area. I am incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to even greater successes in the future.”

TBC Racing will compete locally this coming weekend at Capital Sprints on the Anacostia River before traveling with selected crews to the USRowing Summer Club Nationals on July 13-15th in Bethel, OH.
