TBC Racing’s fall competitive Junior’s program for experienced and novice athletes. Training 6 times per week @ Thompson’s Boat Center.
Description
Program Details
TBC Racing provides several program options for both Junior Men and Junior Women, welcoming every experience level of athlete.
Competitive: The competitive team is broken into the following two groups based on skill level. We will have an evaluation period for the first 2-3 weeks of the season. This will include on-the-water evaluations of skill and strength as well as erg testing. Athletes will then be separated into the following groups, along with a dedicated coaching staff for each group, for the remainder of the season. This selection process will allow us to provide consistent and dedicated training at every level. Athletes may move between the groups in certain cases mid-season.
- High Performance: Program size: 18-24 rowers, 3-4 coxswains. Our most competitive level, for the top junior athletes of any age, focusing on high level training and racing regimes. Competitions include local racing, High Point Fall Festival, Head of the Schuylkill and the Head of the Charles regattas. At this advanced level, athletes must commit up front to practice and regatta attendance. Athletes are expected to be at practice 6 practices per week, and complete additional on your own erg workouts. Selection for this group will be completed during the first two weeks of the season. See details on selection process below.
- Select: Program size: Open, divided in general by U17 and U19 age groups. Our traditional competitive level, perfect for returning high school aged, varsity level rowers . Program goals will increase your technical expertise and overall fitness as well as prepare athletes for a demanding winter and spring training plan. Competitions include local racing, Head of the James and the Head of the Schuylkill.
Novice: Program size: Open. Athletes are eligible for Novice racing in the sport of rowing if they are within their first 12 months of racing. This includes athletes who completed their first racing season last Spring, a Learn to Row program last Spring, Summer Camp this summer, or those who have never rowed before. The group will be split into experienced and never-ever rowers at the beginning of the season to progress through the development stages at the proper pace. Eventually the groups will merge towards the end of the fall to race at the Tail of the Potomac and Head of the Occoquan. Note: Middle School students who have never rowed before can sign up for Discover Rowing for a 3-day a week experience or this Novice program for a 6 day a week experience.
Location: @Thompson’s Boat Center, 2900 Virginia Ave.
