Matt Russell

U19 Women’s Head Coach, Open Women’s Head Coach & Head Coach and President of TBC Racing
Coach Russell is entering his 30th year of coaching.  He is the founding coach of the TBC Rowing programs and continues to be a highly successful coach at the scholastic, club, university, and national level.  While he has amassed numerous wins including multiple national championships, Canadian Henley victories, and wins at the Head of the Charles; he focuses on helping athletes improve and reach their potential, both physical and technical, while supporting the team’s spirit of fun, hard work and camaraderie which are core to the sport of rowing.

Justin DeGaetano

U19 Men’s Head Coach
Coach Justin is currently the U19 Men's Head Coach at TBC Racing. During the scholastic season he serves as Head Women's Coach and Executive Director at James Madison High School and as an Assistant Coach for the Georgetown University Lightweight Men's program. Coach Justin has been coaching men and women in the area for 11 years, and has accumulated a long history of winning at local and national championships across scholastic and club programs. Coach Justin grew up in the area and rowed for Fairfax High School. When not coaching, Justin works at Ronin Racing.

Bryan Tylander

U17 Women’s Head Coach and Assistant Open Women’s Coach
Coach Tylander is currently the U17 Women's Head Coach and Assistant Open Women's Coach at TBC Racing. During the scholastic seasons he serves as the Varsity Men's Coach at W.T. Woodson, where he has been the program's Head Coach since 2014. Coach Tylander has been coaching rowing for 27 years, with all but two years of that dedicated to the development of DC area high-school rowing. In addition to years spent at TBC Racing and W.T. Woodson, his tenure includes coaching at Wilson High School where he won All-Met Coach of the Year; West Springfield; and Potomac Boat Club. Coach Tylander has coached numerous programs to area and national championships, and served as a development team coach for US Rowing. Coach Tylander started his rowing career as a coxswain at West Potomac HS and continued through college as a lightweight rower at the University of Kansas where he was named Oarsman of the Year and continued to be involved as a Freshman/Novice coach after his own graduation. When not coaching, Tylander spends spends his time with his wife and two children, and teaches AP Statistics at W.T. Woodson.

Hunter Coker

U17 Men’s Head Coach
Coach Hunter is currently U17 Lead Men's Coach for TBC Racing, and in his second season at TBC Racing. During the scholastic season, he serves as the Head Coach of Oakton High School's men's rowing team where he has coached crews to area championship medals over the last two years. Prior to joining TBC Racing, Hunter coached at Resilient Racing. Hunter began his rowing career during high school in Richmond, Virginia as a member of River City Crew, and continued rowing at George Mason University until injuries accelerated his transition into coaching. Hunter is currently completing his undergraduate degree in physical education, with a minor in business.

Tom Cosgrove

Manager of Coaching Education and Junior Men’s Assistant Coach
Tom currently serves as the Manager of Coaching Education and Junior Men’s Assistant Coach at TBC Racing; entering his fourth year working with TBC Racing. In addition, for the last four scholastic seasons, Tom has led St. Albans School's Freshman as the Head Freshman Coach. Tom has spent 13 years dedicated to developing novice rowers at programs across the area, including seven years at Gonzaga College High School, where he was on staff during record-tying streak of 5-straight Men’s Varsity Eight Stotesbury Cup Regatta wins. During his career, Tom has also served as an Assistant Coach on Georgetown University's lightweight men's program; and as Freshman men's coach at Walt Whitman High School. All of these engagements have led to achievements by his crews at major regattas including finals at Stotesbury and medals at National Championships. Tom began rowing at Gonzaga High School and attended St. Mary's College of Maryland where he was captain of the Varsity Basketball team. He graduated from St. Mary's with a degree in economics in 2009. In addition to coaching, Tom works for FMI, The Food Industry Association in Arlington, VA and enjoys his office’s view of the river.

Zach Hicks

U17 Women’s Assistant Coach
Zach Hicks is a U17 Women's Assistant Coach at TBC Racing. Coach Hicks joins TBC after coaching novice girls for three years at BCC during the scholastic season. He was also a coach at Annapolis Juniors for one season. Zach is a DC native, rowing at TBC, and attending Walter Johnson High School. He went on to compete for Oregon State University. Zach has several Stotesbury medals and a gold from US Club Nationals as a Junior with TBC. He was elected All-Met by the Washington Post his senior year.

Erik Thomas

Lead Coach Training Program
Erik is TBC Racing's lead coach for the Training team. During the scholastic season you will find Erik coaching at Yorktown High School where he has worked on both the men's and women's sides over the last three years. Erik is from the DMV area and started his rowing career at McLean High School and Thompson’s Boat Center, where he raced in The Head of the Charles and medaled at the Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints. After High School, Erik was recruited to row at Lehigh University. When he is not rowing, you will find Erik working as a photographer for the Department of Defense. He has also served as a photographer for the New York Post and has a passion for the Washington Capitals and Nationals.

Rachel Dickenson

U17 Women’s Assistant Coach
Coach Rachel is currently U17 Women's Assistant Coach at TBC Racing. During the scholastic season, she serves as an Assistant Coach on the men's team at Bethesda Chevy Chase High School. Now in her fourth year of coaching with TBC Racing, Rachel has served as a coach for the U17 programs in past seasons, as well as taking on the head coaching role during the Fall 2021 season, shepherding programs at TBC Racing to multiple national championship medals over the years. Outside of TBC Racing, Rachel spent three years as an Assistant Coach on Yorktown High School's woman's squad before moving to BCC this past year. Coach Rachel began her rowing career in high-school at TBC Racing and Holton-Arms High School and went on to compete for Duke University's rowing team until she graduated in 2010 with a degree in Literature. When not coaching, Rachel works as a freelance professional technical editor, rows with the TBC Racing open women, and spoils her two cats.

Regan Cook

Summer Camp Head Coach, Junior Women’s Assistant Coach
Coach Regan is currently the Head Coach of the TBC Racing Summer Camp, and Assistant Coach for the TBC Racing Junior Women. Coach Regan coaches full-time for TBC Racing, working with Junior Men's and Women's programs throughout the year. During the Spring of 2022, through a partnership with TBC Racing, she also lead the Georgetown Day School boy's varsity crew. Coach Regan began rowing in high school at the Peddie School and spent summers in high school rowing for U19 teams at Vesper Boat Club and Penn AC.  She went on to row at The George Washington University and is currently rowing with the TBC Racing Open Women.

Mairen Hilary

Junior Women’s Assistant Coach
Coach Mairen is currently an Assistant Coach for TBC Racing's Junior Women's Program. During the scholastic season you will find Mairen assistant coaching at her alma mater, Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School. Mairen began her rowing career at Georgetown Visitation and continued to row at Drexel University until she graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Criminology & Justice Studies and a minor in French. Mairen went on to earn an M.A. in Forensic Psychology at The George Washington University in December 2020, and graduated Summa Cum Laude in May 2021. Outside of rowing, Mairen spends most of her time lifting weights and playing with her Corgis.

Grace Libben

U17 Men’s Assistant Coach
Coach Grace is currently the U17 Men's Assistant Coach at TBC Racing. During the scholastic season, she serves as an assistant coach for St. Albans School. Grace began rowing her freshman year of college at The Ohio State University. During her time at OSU, she won two Big Ten Team Championships and helped the team two second place finishes. She helped the 1V8 finish 6th in 2019 and 7th in 2021 at the NCAA Championships. Grace was a five time scholar athlete, Academic All-Big Ten, and a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar during her time as a Buckeye. Currently, Grace is training as a high performance athlete on the Potomac River with aspirations to make the U.S. National Team.

Greta Butz

Assistant Coach, Training Team
Greta Butz is the Assistant Coach for the Training team at TBC Racing. During the Spring scholastic season you could find her as an assistant coach at Yorktown High School. She learned to row as a sophomore at Virginia Tech, rowing until she graduated in 2020 with a degree in Water Resources. As a senior, she served on VT Crew’s board as the Public Relations Officer. After graduation, Greta joined Susquehanna Rowing Association’s masters program, where she rowed a single until moving to Arlington last year.
